BERLIN
2017 Berlin, Germany
Invited by Urban Nation, Ricky Lee Gordon has recently created a new painting in Berlin characterized by a strong reflection on this particular historical moment. One of the most interesting aspects of Ricky Lee Gordon's productions is represented by the strong sensitivity that accompanies the artist and by his will to paint according to the environment and work space. His interventions are therefore influenced by the ideas that the artist collects in a specific place, stimuli that become thematic incipit and subsequently a reflexive lever. In his works, the author reflects on themes such as existence, on how everything is interconnected, on how each of us is interdependent on the other as part of a single vast network of connections. The work painted in Berlin saw Ricky Lee Gordon approach space in a freer way, thinking of an intervention capable of conveying a global message and at the same time making one reflect on one of the great themes of this period, climate change. The development of the work passes through a style that recalls that of an old photograph, the South African author in this way paints a highly evocative image, with surreal and strongly poetic and able to take charge of a message of change and hope for the future.
